Singing in Turkish with Tarkan: Adımı kalbine yaz

I have been trying lately to find a more fun way to learn Turkish and memorize some vocabulary, than reading textbooks. As I've always liked Tarkan's songs (yes, I know, it's not high art), I thought: why shouldn't I try to sing along? I like especially his album "Adımı kalbine yaz", released in 2010. It became the best selling album that year in Turkey, with more that 300,000 copies sold.

Easier said than done. Turkish songs are known to be very difficult to translate, because they tend to be very poetic. But I like difficult tasks, so... why not?
Below you will find the title song from the album - "Adımı kalbine yaz". First there go Turkish lyrics, then my translation. Note: it's more or less literal translation, less poetic than the original text.

Tarkan: Adımı kalbine yaz

Senden ne bir haber
Ne selam gelir oldu
Yoksa yerim mi doldu?
Yoluna ektiğim sevgi çiçeklerim
Unutulup mu soldu?

Hani kader bizi ayırsa da bi gün;
Kalpler bir olacaktı
Yoksa gurbetin o yalan kucakları
Seni de mi uyuttu?

Hey, hey gidi günler hey
Yediğimiz içtiğimiz ayrı gitmezdi hatırla
Hey, hey gidi günler hey
Ne çabuk attın o günlerin pabucunu dama

Ayda yılda bir olsa da muhakkak ara
Azıcık zamanından ayır da
Öldün mü kaldın mı diye sor ara sıra
Adımı kalbine yaz beni unutma

Bugün o yüzüne gülen dost sandıkların
Yarın da yanında olacak mı?
İyi günde ne ala
Kötü günde firarda
İçin sızlamayacak mı?

Öyleyse sımsıkı sarıl kendine
Özünden başka yola sapma
Seni gönülden seveni
El üstünde tut emi hatırla daima

Hey, hey gidi günler hey
Yediğimiz içtiğimiz ayrı gitmezdi hatırla
Hey, hey gidi günler hey
Ne çabuk attın o günlerin pabucunu dama

Ayda yılda bir olsa da muhakkak ara
Azıcık zamanından ayır da
Öldün mü kaldın mı diye sor ara sıra
Adımı kalbine yaz beni unutma

Translation into English

No news, no greeting came from you
Or else, has my place been filled?
The flowers of my love I’ve thrown on your road
Have they become forgotten and withered?
If one day fate separated us
The hearts would stay as one
Or have lying embraces of foreign lands
Made you fall asleep

Hey, hey these past days, hey
Wouldn’t separate us when we were eating and drinking, remember
Hey, hey these past days, hey
How fast you got disappointed with those days
Be it once a month or a year, be sure to call me
Give me a little bit of your time
Ask from time to time: Are you dead or still alive
Write my name into your heart, don’t forget me

Those you consider friends, that smile today into your face
Will they also be at your side tomorrow?
In a good day, how wonderful
In a bad day will they rush to run?

Well, hold on tight to yourself
Don’t steer away from your true self
Remember those who love you willingly
And show great respect
Forever

Hey, hey these past days, hey
Wouldn’t separate us when we were eating and drinking, remember
Hey, hey these past days, hey
How fast you got disappointed with those days
Be it once a month or a year, be sure to call me
Give me a little bit of your time
Ask from time to time: Are you dead or still alive
Write my name into your heart, don’t forget me
