Reading in Swahili: Ongezeko la watu Uganda

This post is my second approach to reading the news in Swahili. This short text is taken from the BBC Swahili website and it’s not so difficult. In fact it’s quite easy and a beginner should be able to understand what it’s about without a dictionary. But it’s still good to note down some new words.

Text in Swahili
Uganda ina ongezeko kubwa la watu duniani. Kiwango cha uzazi cha nchi hiyo kwa sasa ni watoto 5.9 kwa kila mwanamke. Idadi ya watu wa Uganda imeongezeka tangu mwaka 1960 ambapo watu walikuwa milioni 6.6. Kwa sasa nchi hiyo ina jumla ya watu milioni 34.5. Ifikapo mwaka 2050 Umoja wa Mataifa unakadiria kuwa idadi hiyo itakaribia watu milioni 100 ambayo ni mara tatu ya idadi ya sasa.

Translation
Increase of the population in Uganda
Uganda has the biggest increase of the population in the world. Fertility raze of this country is at the moment 5.9 children for each woman. The number of people of Uganda increased since 1960 in which there were 6..6 million people. Now this country has total population of 34.5 million. The United Nations estimates that by the year 2050 this number will reach 100 million people which is three times more than the present amount.
